The Pink Ribbon Runway in Atlanta, had their 2nd annual benefit for breast cancer on March 14, 2008 at the Carl House in Auburn Georgia. The evening was an educational and fun-filled fundraising event.

The Pink Ribbon Runway embraces the mission to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research, treatment, screening and education. They also support organizations that conduct research, educate the community and raise awareness and funds for breast cancer.

Pink Ribbon House Preview Party March 29th

A preview party will be held at the house March 29 at 7 p.m for the Pink Ribbon House project in Tanglewood – Houston, Texas.

The Pink Ribbon House project was created in 2003 to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research at Baylor College of Medicine through the design, decorating and touring of showcase homes. Since its founding, hundreds of volunteers and sponsors have helped generate nearly $2 million for breast cancer research. This is Houston’s fourth Pink Ribbon House built to “raise the roof for research.”

All proceeds from the sale will go to the Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation, which grants wishes for patients with terminal breast cancer.”…

Be Proactive About Breast Cancer

A new program aimed at women over 40 has been launched in Ontario. The goal is to help low income and immagrant women from various communities, offering screenings to women who most like have never had the opportunity.

“In addition to St. Paul’s, Scarborough’s new program includes partnerships with the Agincourt Community Services Association, Toronto Public Health, the Immigrant Women’s Health Centre, Quantum Medical Imaging Services and West Hill Community Services.”

Skating Strides Against Breast Cancer

“The University of Connecticut women’s ice hockey team will join the Hockey East Association and fellow Hockey East women’s ice hockey programs in the “WHEA Skating Strides Against Breast Cancer” to take place the weekend of Feb. 16-17. The Huskies will host their part of the event on Saturday, Feb. 16 as they host Boston University at 1:00 p.m.

In addition to gate admissions, each of the contests will also include merchandise sales, raffles, auctions, and other special events. All proceeds from the Skating Strides weekend will be donated to breast cancer charities, including the Friends of Mel Foundation, the American Cancer Society and Susan G. Komen for the Cure.”

Pink Ribbon Plates in Maine

“This is the first license plate that could save lives,” said Maine State Rep. Meredith Strang Burgess, the leading voice behind the campaign and a breast cancer survivor. “We know for a fact that when women see the plate, it reminds them to get a mammogram.”…

All proceeds will support three Maine organizations: The Maine Breast Cancer
Coalition, The Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program, and the Maine Cancer Foundation.

The plate will be issued in October 2008 during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The deadline to reserve a plate and help ensure the Act was December 31st. The goal of 2000 reservations has been met.

New Hope for Breast Cancer Detection

Researchers are improving the chances of women faced with an aggressive and difficult to diagnose form of breast cancer. Inflammatory breast cancer spreads quickly and can be lethal in six to nine months. But by using fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography combined with computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT), radiologists and physicists are able to spot the spread of cancer earlier, according to a study presented November 26 at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America.

An interesting bit of information on new Optical Breast Cancer Imaging Technology – CT Laser Mammography (CTLM(R)) system.

“CTLM may solve some of the clinical problems associated with current
breast cancer detection methods. … ‘The
incidence of breast cancer is growing steadily throughout the world.
There is an urgent need for a simple, easily installed, inexpensive -
but reliable – method of detecting breast cancer at an early stage…’”.

The bottom line, make sure you know what and why you’re buying. Are you shopping to show your support or find a gift that commemorates an event… or are you buying while you pay to support the cause?

Many of the products I have found to feature here do not actually raise funds for the cause… that’s why I’ve added them to my collection. Although the merchant may not donate, I do… because it’s important to me.
